Refurbishment and conversion of former school

Refurbishment and conversion of former school into student/community housing

The Project

This student accommodation project aimed to transform an underutilised learning centre into a habitable environment for incoming first year students of Limerick colleges. The development is located in the City Centre of Limerick and consists of an old 19th Century preserved stone building, which had many uses in the past. The project’s aims was to develop learning, recreational, living and prayer spaces for the occupants who can enjoy living space within a beautiful Georgian block, conveniently situated at the heart of Limerick City Centre.

The size of the site is approximately 300 sq.m in size – and the project saw the complete refurbishment and upgrade of the existing stone structure. The extent of the works included new floors, roof, internal stairs, partitions, ceilings, bathrooms and kitchen. Also included was the complete renewal of heating, plumbing, electrical and demand-controlled ventilation. The building is with the current building regulations.

Externally the building was clad with an attractive fibre cement cladding and the external areas are of high quality paving – providing private amenity space for the residents. The scheme is connected to mains gas and also features a central control automatic fire detection and alarm system.
