Based in Ennis, County Clare, and Limerick City, HLF Architects practices as Architects, Civil/ Structural Engineers and Project Managers. We work across the industrial, commercial and domestic sectors – providing bespoke design with a full compliment of on-site consulting services.
Our Story
Founded in 1968, the company has flourished over the years, growing in size, skill and expertise. Since the retirement of the two founder directors, the company is today headed up by Chartered Engineer Michael Flynn and Chartered Architect Maximilian Kraus. We have a team of 12 professionals, based in Ennis – while Registered Architect Shane Leyden has joined the firm to govern clients in Limerick.
In 2018, our work for St Augustine in Limerick City was recognised in the Building of the Year Awards. This ambitious project saw the conversion and refurbishment of the old school into student accommodation and community housing. View the Project

As professionals on projects, so much of our work has been to find solutions to problems. As competent , qualified and experienced designers we have spent years advising on structural challenges and understanding the potential for improvement. Diagnosing, analysing, solving. This integrated knowledge is synthesised into every design job we work on today. It means we ‘design-out problems’ – stopping them before they are made. It’s about design with foresight, with joined-up thinking – made possible because of years of on-the-job learning and experience.
